When I was just 4 or 5, I was already aware of my differences. It's hard to imagine I was aware of it, but I enjoyed playing dress-up as a girl. To simulate long hair, I'd wear a towel as my skirt and a cloth on my head. I never liked the "rough and tumble" activities done by boys and only truly wanted to play with the girls and their toys. Being Trans is a trait you are born with; it cannot be altered or forced out of you!
